Michael E. Gunn

Before graduating from Newberry College as an H. Lee Atwater Endowed Scholar for Political Science, Michael began an early career in governmental and public relations. Starting as an independent study and internship in college with Greenville, South Carolina based Brett Public Relations, Michael set himself on the fast track in South Carolina governmental affairs. For over 17 years, he has lobbied before the South Carolina General Assembly, regulatory agencies, and the governor’s office.

Michael has served as the chief lobbyist for the South Carolina Association for Justice (SCAJ) during some of its toughest legislative battles, earning him the respect of plaintiffs’ lawyers, legislators, both Democrats and Republicans, and colleagues around the state. Michael still works regularly with SCAJ on their legislative initiatives and policy positions.

In 2005, Michael became a settlement consultant and partner at Forge Consulting. His extensive skills, knowledge of the plaintiffs’ bar, expertise in negotiation, and dedication to advocating for plaintiffs led to his promotion to Principal in 2012.

Michael’s passion for giving back to his community keeps him very active. He serves on the Scholarship Committee for Kids’ Chance of South Carolina, Inc., a group committed to providing scholarships to dependents of workers who have been seriously injured or killed on the job; he is a member of the Board of Directors for the Monday After the Masters (MAM), which has raised over five million dollars for children’s educational programs and the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation since its inception. He also serves as a volunteer with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Cancer Society, and his daughter’s school, St. John Neumann.

Michael is a member of the Kappa Alpha Order, where he serves as Deputy Province commander of the Graves Province, and is a member of the Crimson & Gold Society. While Michael primarily travels the southeastern United States, he makes his home in Columbia, South Carolina.
